Actually, the result is purely disappointing. Why having boyfriend in Taiwan simply sucks? Apart from that, giving compliments also has some rules.

I really, really wished my companion would have stayed in safe waters of clothing or such. Instead, I could not believe to my ears when hearing:. In the world as I know it maybe it is just European thing , whoever offers better argument, gets to decide. It might not be purely about logic, but definitely it is just gender what delegates the power. But to due to good argument, but — sadly- automatically. I am aware that parents around here tend to push their kinds to make family early. The pressure is, therefore, quite clear. The question is what is the best timing to bring up the topic. Maybe I am fearful girl, but if the boy starts to talk about kinds after we just met, it really scares me.
To me, topics of kids is for people who do not know each other well NO topic. Seems there is some unwritten rule that girl and boy are supposed to meet every day during the first month of going out. It has driven me completely, completely me crazy. Later, discussing that situation openly, the guy told me that ideally, he would like to see me twice a day. If you really are, I expect detailed schedule of what you do.
Bu there was no fresh air. Talking to other guys was not welcome, even if that conversation was with presence of other people or HIM.
The moment the jealousy won over the respect to me, I knew it is time. Those are my experiences of dating in Taiwan. According to one saying, it is better to be alone than in bad company. That is exactly what am I gonna do. There are 1 billion in China and 23 million people in Taiwan. You ran into two of them and both of them sucked.
I just came across this blog about sex lives of foreign women in Taiwan: I am sorry that you have dated with the wrong guys as I am sure there are some gentlemen out there in Taiwan. Actually, I think you just need to meet a few more men in different circumstances. It sounds like the men you dated went in to it with the expectation of you being a serious girlfriend with a view to marriage. Just take a bit more time to get to know some Taiwanese men without so much pressure and you might have a better experience.
Eastern Girls and Western Boys
Are you kidding me? I think you should have more dates or just leave this topic. The filmmakers interviewed five women. And a Western guy, whose blurred-out statements do not add that much.
The term Xicanmei always made struck me as over-emphasizing the difference between Taiwanese people us and Western foreigners them. Another one of the eRenlai editors added his own thoughts on the matter. He comes up with some interesting observations as to how Taiwanese in general perceive and treat foreigners from other poorer Asian countries differently from Westerners.
Over the last few years living in Taiwan, I have come to share many of these observations.
Taiwanese girls dating Western foreigners: What is a Xicanmei 西餐妹 ?
But it feels good to see Taiwanese actually saying it out loud. In a few years time, many of these problems will have been resolved. What do you think? For your comments to be published, please provide an authentic e-mail address. Which is not made public. I am a German reporter living and working in Taiwan. Read more English posts on this otherwise mostly German blog. The society is conservative when it comes to accepting people from other countries.
On the outside people are very open, but on the inside they have a strong opinion about race. This is something that I sadly have to totally agree with. And I do not think that this is simply a matter of a few years time but rather a matter of one or two generations. In the given situation of Taiwanese frustration on not being accepted by most other countries even longer.
That was not a smart move on the long term but still, the country is the only responsible for this situation. Good points, thank you for contributing. Have never heard it used to refer to straight people though I suppose it is possible. CCR, which is the abbreviation of cross-cultured romance. But instead of the real and politically correct meaning, people tend to use this word to describe a girl who dates foreigners, especially Caucasians. So they will use it like: You are a CCR. Or when they see a girl dating a foreigner, they will just comment this three Alphabets and say no more words to summarize their whole relationship.
The subject of white western husband versus south east asian bride is an interesting one, which has its pros and cons. For example, my half western kids are given every allowance and applauded for having good Chinese; the half south east asian kid would be expected to speak good Chinese.
What is your dating experience like in Taiwan? Quite a few of my girl friends are leaving or already left Taiwan. I'm devastated because I hate saying goodbye. I got black, white, and Hispanic friends, and the ones that are in relationships are NOT dating Taiwanese. It makes me wonder, why is it so easy for a foreign man to get a Taiwanese girl but so difficult for foreign woman to get a Taiwanese man? Taiwanese guys will pursue white girls, but not so much if they are larger taller or heavier than them.
Sounds shallow but not that different from the West. Taiwanese guys generally don't speak English very well. Talk Chinese to them and they will love you.

In general Taiwanese guys are pretty chivalrous paying for dates, giving you their coat, etc which some people find charming and others find sexist. Those things are really small behaviors which are easily negotiated. I am dating a Taiwanese guy right now and we get along wonderfully, but it's definitely a lot more work than dating somebody from the same culture.
Both sides need to be really open minded and work to understand the other. Every individual is different. You are not exactly like the typical person from your country and neither is any given Taiwanese guy. Ask first before jumping to conclusions. My boyfriend never attended a cram school buxiban , for example. Honestly there might be more white guy-Asian girl relationships around but that doesn't mean those relationships are healthy. When I see a guy who can't function in Taiwanese society without his wife translating everything for him, I don't envy them.
I don't think most American women would be down for that. Not sure about other family-based cultures such as Italy or Latin America. I got a friend who can speak nearly perfect Chinese, and she dated a Chinese guy when she lived in China. She is tall and skinny and her Chinese ex boyfriend was shorter than her. However, she just can't find a boyfriend in Taiwan! She is one of many that is leaving this year. A lot of my Taiwanese guy friends with girlfriends, the girls have to spend a ton of time with the guy's family.
The girls all don't want to get married because it means moving into the other family's house and theres usually a lot of drama. It's an often true stereotype that Asian parents are often overbearing. It is not an overbearing thing that you can easily live with. It often includes superstition, myths, and a whole lot of annoyance. As a white girl who spent a year in Taiwan at , I could have any Taiwanese guy I wanted Dating was a lot harder. Some Taiwanese guys don't want to be serious with a foreign girl- and many foreigners have that "return date" set in stone, or at least in the back of their mind.
No one loves long distance. I did date a lovely boy for my last 3 months, but as soon as I returned to Australia he broke up with me. Language can be an issue, but I think there was also the attention factor- I was the only foreign person in my exchange school, in a tiny rural town, and we got looks everywhere we went. I don't think he liked that too much.
